manners and are kept in show condition at all times. All of the horses are trained in English,

Riding Lessons
Riding Lesson Policy

•        All lessons are by appointment only and we recommend that you block the time for your ride
every week. We understand that sometimes events come up and you cannot make your lesson.
Kindly give us 6-12 hours notice. Failure will result in us charging you a $15.00 cancellation fee.

•        In the event that the student is late, Katom Cree Farm will attempt to compensate the student
for the lost time ONLY if the instructor’s schedule allows it. However, in the event that it cannot be
accomplished, the time will be forfeited without the right to future compensation. If a student is 15
minutes late he/she will not be offered the remainder of the lesson.

•        Katom Cree Farm will remind you when you have completed you package at the time of your
last lesson on your package, but is your job to remember to bring payment for the next package.
Lesson packages are to be paid in full at time of purchase; any type of partial payments toward a
package will not be allowed. We reserve the right to withhold the lesson if rider has failed to bring
payment.

•        Lessons are not given during severe bad weather (thunder/lightning storms, etc.), but we will
ride if the rain is mild, so come with a rain jacket. If you are unsure if the lesson will go on as
scheduled you may call us. The instructor will call only if the weather is severe enough to cancel the
ride. Calls will be done well in advance.

•        There is no feeding treats to the horses without the instructor’s permission. Please ask what
treats are acceptable to bring. Some horses have trouble distinguishing fingers from food and we
do not want anyone getting inadvertently hurt from the bite of a horse trying to take food from
someone’s hand. If the instructor said the horse can get a treat and it is to be placed in their feed
bucket, respect the instructors’ orders and place the treat in the feed bucket. Failure in following this
will result in the horse not getting treats at all. Realize that the horse is not owned by you and the
owner makes the choice on if the horse gets treats or not. The horses are handled by children and
adult students and we want all the horses to be mannerly and not food obsessive.

•        All children under the age of 18 must wear a helmet while mounted, no exceptions. We highly
advise adults to wear one, and make it mandatory only for beginners and for all jumping lessons.
We provide helmets for our beginning students if you do not have one. If you become serious in
riding then we recommend that you purchase one of your own.

•        When planning to take lessons with us, please consider the following guidelines of
appropriate dress.

    * Proper footwear is required.  Boots should have a hard sole and 1/2" heel.  English
paddock or western lacer/roper boots are recommended, but work boots will work to start off
with. NO SNEAKERS, SANDALS OR LOAFERS - they are not advisable as your foot can slip
through the stirrup and they do not support or protect your ankle during riding. For winter
months insulated waterproof riding boots are preferred.

    * Straight leg jeans are appropriate for beginning lessons. Those riding English may find
that breeches or jodhpurs are more comfortable. Western riders may find it easier to ride
with chaps. In winter, thermal pants under jeans will be needed or waterproof insulated
    riding pants.

    * A comfortable T-shirt, tank top or polo is fine in the warmer months.  As the weather cools
down, turtlenecks, sweatshirts, polar fleece tops and/or waist length jackets for warmth will
    be necessary.

    * Riding gloves are optional in summer, but necessary in winter.

•        Katom Cree Farm may at anytime amend this policy for any reason and will provide a copy to
all current lesson students. Amendments to the policy are effective on the date given and are not
open to change.
