Indio Joe You Cant Imagine (Nutmeg)

We Are Expecting!

Back in May we bred our mare You Cant Imagine (Nutmeg) to our stallion Indio Joe. It
was the first time both of them and the breeding went very smoothly. Being that Nutmeg
is getting up in age, now 16 years old, we decided to give it a try and get her pregnant.
Although she is in great shape for her age, an older mare typically will have more
difficulty conceiving.

At first she seemed like she took, but in July she started to act strange, acting
aggressive to her turnout buddy, but still mannerly under saddle. By the end of August
she settled down and I did a blood test (Pregnamare) which said negative, she was not
pregnant. Oh well I though, maybe next year we try again and if she does not take, then
at least we tried.

Going into late October/beginnig November Nutmeg seemed to be getting bigger in the
belly and although she usually puts on a few extra pounds for the winter, this was not her
usual weight gain. We called the vet out and well we were given the good news - SHE'S
PREGNANT! Her expected due date is April 20, 2010.
